Need to stay in Canada longer than your initial visa allows? This guide explains how to extend your stay through a visitor record extension, whether you're on a tourist visa, visitor visa, or family visa.
What is Visitor Record Extension?
A visitor record extension allows you to stay in Canada beyond your initial authorized period (usually 6 months). You must apply before your current status expires.
When to Apply for Extension
Apply at least 30 days before your current status expires. Late applications may be refused. You can apply while in Canada on a valid visitor status.

- Have valid reason for extension (tourism, family visit, medical treatment)
- Can demonstrate sufficient funds for extended stay
- Plan to leave Canada at end of extended period
Required Documents

- Valid passport
- Proof of financial support (bank statements, income proof)

Extension fee is CAD $100 (₹6,500). Pay online when submitting your application through IRCC portal.
